Matt Morris, originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, recently graduated from the Art Academy of Cincinnati with a BFA in painting, but his earlier studies in sculpture also inform the elaborate installations he creates that involve painting, sculptural objects, video, sound, sewing and scattered ephemera. Morris art is a response to information that he gathers from history, personal memories, mythology, poetry, popular culture and art history; and aims at articulating the presence of underlying forces within individual and social consciousness.

He has shown in Cincinnati area venues such as The Carnegie Visual + Performing Arts Center, the Visual Fringe Festival, Warsaw Project Space, Nicholas Gallery, as well as a number of galleries in southern Louisiana. During his senior year, Morris oversaw Chidlaw Gallery, the student-run gallery space at the Art Academy, taking on the roles of curator and installation supervisor, along with studio artist.

Morris writes poetry and art criticism and cooks gourmet meals as a means of discovering new things away from the studio.
