| Totem wax, found candles, wire, wooden base This piece was the product of an intense research project on the sacred practices and spaces of various historical cultures. I focused on looking at the roles wax has had in those religious practices. The piece refers primarily to the Thiland celebration in which models of castles and palaces are built out of brightly colored wax. Also, it is in the form of the Native American totem pole and the Egyptian obelisk, both of which have been painted before with colored waxes. The art of Lynda Benglis was also a large inspiration. |
