Vigrin I and Virgin II
wax, candles, wire, foam, spray paint

In the summer of 2002, I was first exposed to the work of Petah Coyne while in Cincinnati, visiting the Art Academy. On the same trip, I also saw some amazing encaustic by a current student there. When I returned to Baton Rouge that July, I began realizaed that the way I saw art in general had totally shifted. Donald Judd said once that suddenly it was impossible to express what he needed to 2-dimensionally. So I began to work and reasearch and experiment in sculpture for the first time in my life, save ceramic work.

These two were my first 'chandelier' pieces. They were the beginning of the series of the 10 Virgins, in which five would have candles and five would not.
Installed at the Phantom Galleries, along with poetry I was writing during their creation.
