This is a recent transition in wax painting for me. I am following in the tradition of Christian iconography, but looking at the concept from a contemporary, non-denominational stand point.
Recently, I have finished a book about Frida Khalo's work she did in Mexico. Anytime I am afraid of too much self-investiagtion, I look at my dear Frida. So this is my "Me as Frida and Jesus as Diego" contemporary icon. It is a prelimanary piece for a couple of performance pieces I will be doing at River Community Church at their City of Gold celebration on June 29th. Look forward to new additions as I start working with my wax paintings as well as my wax sculptures.
