want to go home already?
Hey, why not drop me a note?
Araucanas originated in Chile (located in South America) where they were developed by the Arauca tribe, an Indian tribe of some sort, by crossing Mediterranean breeds that came from Spain with their own native breeds fo chickens.  These chickens' blue eggs were reported as early as the 16th century.
They were finally classified as a breed in 1969 at a Rare Breeds council meeting.  They are classified in the light weight, soft feather, and rumpless(meaning that hens and roosters both have no tail feathers) division.
want to know more about me?
Hey, want to know my cool friends?
Want to see other chickens?
Hey, my church is the coolest in the world!!
Let's go see the chicken "rocks!"
Their Eggs:  Araucana eggs are strong-shelled eggs that can come in colors anywhere from light brown to blue or green.  Though, most of their eggs are blue in color.  The inside of the shell is the same color as the outside of the shell.  They are favored because they lay colored eggs(there's not many color egg laying chickens out there!!)
Araucana males weigh about 6lbs and females weigh about 4.5 to 5lbs.  They are a medium-sized breed.  They are sought after for their eggs, though some people use them for eating purposes to.  They come in all kinds of colors and some have muffs, beards, and colored legs.
The background pictures on the left are the different colors of Araucanas and their color variation is listed on the pics themselves.  Araucanas come in so many colors and patterns, but these are some of the most common kinds.  Also the bunch of chicks that's part of the background are Araucanas also.  The other 3 pics are just there for you to see some more color patterns and so on.   Amanda...04-07-04
