When is the last time "your jaw dropped"? It should happen daily...

We, as humans, love to be "wow-ed" by things.
We rise to our feet when a hitter takes a ball 500 feet in a baseball game, or when a player dunks from the free throw line. We heap accolades upon actors for their performance in motion pictures or upon passionate teachers or speakers who cause us to look upon our lives in a new way (not that there's anything wrong with that). How often, though, do we look past the person (the creation) and place our zealous praise upon the CREATOR?
Why doesn't a random "Wednesday sunset" elicit a greater reaction than a Sunday touchdown?
Why doesn't reading the Scriptures daily, intrigue us as much as the newspaper?
Why do we take the Lord's name in vain so easily, yet look down upon others for swearing?
Why do we so often base our self-esteem on the opinion of others rather than on God?
Why do we fight for the back row at Mass and the front row at a rock concert?
It's common nowadays to be "WOWed" by movies and their special effects. It's not very often, however, that many of us find ourselves "wowed by" or standing in AWE of God.
When we say that we have an "AWEsome God" that doesn't mean that He's "really cool", it means that our God is beyond description, beyond social definition or class, beyond any reality that we can wrap our teeny, tiny heads around. He is far bigger than us. Far bigger than any "know-it-all" theologian can ever come close to defining.
Saying or singing that our God is "awesome" means that He is WORTHY of AWE and of praise, and that when we think about it, we are SO blown away, that we can barely keep it inside, that we MUST proclaim it. Watch a newborn baby laugh, and tell me that you don't see God. If you don't, than you're not looking hard enough.
To stand in AWE of God, first necessitates being in His presence. Nothing is so life-altering or so transforming as sitting in His presence, regularly, and just letting God speak to me. OR I could just watch TV. Of course, it's summertime, and it's all reruns, anyway. So, it seems like a perfect time, a perfect week, to take the extra 15 or 30 minutes, get by church without telling anyone, and let God really speak to me.
Sit in His midst, in His real presence, and remind yourself of the AWE-inspiring reality that is God...the God who created the Heavens, the Earth, the sun, the stars, the seasons, the mountains...the God who created YOU with a very specific purpose.
Now THAT is AWEsome.

He's AW(E)ful cool, if you ask me.
