Every now and again
I think that I’ve got You figured out.
Pat myself on the back and ponder
How I could not see
The simplicity
Of all of God’s wonder, and complexity.
And then there’s a voice that screams, “I am the sea!
You haven’t seen my depth or conquered my storms.”
Louder, or louder, it screams, “Follow me
In simple obedient wonder.
“You can’t know it all,
No, it’s not meant to be, though you’d like to,
Though you’d like to see.
That burden’s too heavy a burden to bear,
And you’ve got enough on your plate.
“Bring me your troubles and bring me your joy!
For I will console you and dance in delight.
Never, no never, shall I leave your side,
The world dwells in darkness and I’ll be your light.
I’ll be your light to the world.”
So now when I’m tempted
To congratulate myself all too soon,
I remember
That once in awhile, there’s a little child,
That conquers the nations, and knows more than I!
He is the voice that screams, “I am the Way!
The Way to the joy you so desperately seek.”
Louder, oh louder, He screams, “Come to me!
For I’ll be your shelter and peace.
I’ll be your hope and your life.
I’ll be your refuge and strength.
I’ll be your laughter and song.
And we’ll carry on.”
