Verse 1
Huddled in a dirty corner
tries to drown out Father’s shouting
praying Father will not strike him
wonders how he’ll explain this bruise
runs upstairs and locks his bedroom
out the window stars are shining
tears are falling, quick and quiet
why can’t Father just stop drinking?

Little one wonders why
God just sits there way up high
Little one, dry your eyes
He hears the frightened child’s cry

Verse 2
Lying naked on the side walk
flies surround her weakened body
brother tried to find enough food
still there just was never enough
brother is gone, she has no strength
to cry out for him to help her
darkness creeps in, quick and quiet
breath is shallow, life is fleeting

Little one wonders why
God just sits and let’s her die
Little one, close your eyes
He hears the dying child’s cry

Verse 3
Didn’t realize he would leave her
pregnant and now there’s no father
couldn’t handle, just too fearful
she has no one to support her
sonogram says heart is beating
mother says that this is her choice
death has come now, quick and quiet
child never was consulted

Little one wonders why
God just sits and doesn’t try

He hears the silent child’s cry
