| Moulin Rouge : Movie Review --review by *me*-- I went to see Moulin Rouge with three of my best friends before one of them, Danis was leaving to England. Danielle had actually wanted to see it most...and when she talked about it - I knew I wanted to see it. So after work, on a warm Saturday evening I went to AMC theatres along with Ash, victor and Danis, whom I've previously mentioned. We sat in the center of the theatre...ready to watch the most amazing movie I have ever seen... I was sitting on the end, and Danielle was at the other end. Ashley and Victor were in the middle. Victor was next to me...Ashley next to him - yah - ANYWAY... The previews ended and it began with an instrumental intro and I heard a familiar tune - "The Sound Of Music" was playing and there was a little man conducting the music. It looked like a movie that would be different from any other - even at that point. When the film really started, it began with Ewan McGregor, Christian, narrating the story. He was typing out 'his' story on his typewriter. You could tell he was a writer. The camera job and the directing was just fabulous. It was so powerful and your attention was automatically grabbed and given to the screen. They began introducing the theme of the movie, Love, along with the sub-themes. The movie was about bohemian beliefs and you learned about those from the children of the revolution Toulouse and his friends. Their entry was funny and fun. As the story progressed they finally introduced the "Sparkling Diamond", Nicole Kidman. She totally lit up the screen with her enchanting singing and spectacular acting. She began her number "Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend" - and finished it with a shocking endind... There was one scene that had the theatre rolling with laughter. It was the seduction scene. Satine, Kidman, was misunderstanding Christian's intentions and just...y'know...the whole thing was simply lovely. The elephant Love Medly was done in an original and facinating fashion. They had all sorts of love songs from all different decades of the 1900s sung out within five minutes. This part was so moving and so sweet that it had your heart melting and your tears welling up. However the movie wasn't *just* laughs and bubbly nothingness. There were many tears shed. There were so many emotional scenes that had the sensitive souls sobbing and running off to the washrooms. [only the first time ;-) ] Nicole Kidman's acting was just so outstanding - I was sooo totally impressed. Ewan McGregors voice and his acting...just - it couldn't have been more well done. These two shared such a chemistry onscreen. There were other songs that were done - this was a musical and a movie - both the best ofs...and I totally recomend this movie to everyone! It's just the best. |
