I have always loved Cabbage Patch Kids. I got my first kid, I believe, when I was 7 or 8 years old. I no longer have her but she was so beautiful. She was my one and only kid back then. She had butterscotch braids and was a paci kid but I can't remember her name. I was extremely excited to open this baby on Christmas. I still hope and search for her or one like her on auction sites and other collector's sites. I still haven't come across her.
I picked up collecting CPKs about 2 years ago. I'm not exactly sure why though. I know that is the time I finally got a computer and hooked up to the internet. I then discovered Ebay! Boy, that was a mistake! I have since added quite a few kids to my collection but couldn't say just how many.
Since moving to New Zealand in August of 2000, I have begun to take collecting seriously. I have purchased kids that have been shipped here and also some that have been shipped within the US anxiously awaiting me to pick them up. Shipping to New Zealand is expensive so only a rare few and special ones get to come and live with me here.
More recently I have started getting kids that need a little "pick-me-up". I got into this when I blindly bought a kid from Australia that was in extremely poor condition. When I transformed her, I was amazed at what I had done. I now look for abandoned kids and the occassional complete one. However, clothing, shoes, etc. are still hard for me to come by so not all of my dolls have complete outfits but I am still working on that.
