THE JOURNEY

Little girl on the bus
with a book in her hand
reading aloud
mother so proud
besides her.
Tells a tale about life
about angst and of strife
about teenage struggles
as a young girl muddles
along in desperation.
Trying to fit in with the crowd
doing things not allowed
roaming streets late at night
knowing these things aren't right
that she's doing.
But she wants to belong
never mind that it's wrong
to lie, cheat and steal
she pretends it's not real
but it's too late.
Her life is a mess
nothing left but confess
to the crimes she committed
told them all, none omitted
All forgiven.
Little girl on the bus
downs her book , looks at us
listening in on her tale wracked with sorrow
With her mother beside
(she is puffed up with pride)
she smiles softly 'There's always tomorrow...'
