CURRENCY & EXCHANGE
Italy nows uses the Euro. I found that some of the best exchange rates were given by local banks. They still charge a nominal fee, but it was significantly less then the Thomas Cook Exchanges(located at airports and the larger cities.) Also, the American Express Exchange office, charges no fee. Here is a link to an exchange rate calculator.
RESEARCH
If you are planning a trip to Italy, do your research! Reading some books beforehand were an immense help in regards to what we wanted to see. Also, if your a Triple AAA member, I recommend purchasing walking maps at your local Triple AAA office (non-members pay a slightly higher fee) We bought maps for Florence, Venice, and Rome which were extremely helpful and easy to read.
WEATHER
The weather for Italy varies. Being there in the middle of March, I had packed sweaters and jeans for Northern Italy and Capri pants and short sleeve shirts for Southern Italy. But to my surprise, I wore the opposite clothing attire for the regions. Southern Italy; Sorrento and Capri was very cold and it actually snowed! While in Florence and Pisa, I wore Capri pants and sandals. In any case, you should be prepared for any inclement weather. For Complete Weather Information
