

Reggae is soulful entertainment in Jamaica, its a strong social force that stands for the struggles of everyday life by putting them into words that describe the people that listen to its powerful messages. The music came from conflicts and struggle. Its based on freedom and determination. Politicians have been know to use reggae music as the important part of their campaigns for being elected. Prime Ministers have had songwriters create songs for their political campaigns, because they know well that this music can easily bring crowds of people together, unite a country, and political party at the same time.
Reggae music has two different meanings. Its original name for all Jamaican popular music since 1960, Reggae, can also refer to the particular beat that was extremely popular in Jamaica from around 1969 to 1983. Jamaican music can be divided into four areas that carry their own individual beat. They are ska, rocksteady, reggae and dancehall. Each of these types of music have their own individual styles.
Born Robert Nesta Marley on February 6, 1945 in Nine Miles, Jamaica, Bob was destined to be famous. He moved to Trench Town, Kingston, where he was nicknamed "The Gong" because of his ability to effectively scare off bullies without getting into serious trouble. He soon joined forces with Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh, and formed the group "The Wailers". They recorded their first hit "Simmer Down" in 1963, immediately becoming one of Jamaica's foremost groups.
Now, Bob
Marley is known as the king of Reggae. His music has inspired and touched
the hearts of people all around the world, especially in Jamaica. February
6th is now a national holiday in Jamaica honoring Bob Marley's birthday. Bob
died at the age of 36 on May 11,1981. He was diagnosed with cancer in his
liver, lungs, and brain. Four days after he died, the world became aware of
his death. A state funeral was held for him by fans and loved ones.
