Loki is the god of fire and mischief. He is clever and a trickster. Loki is actually one of the giants, who are the enemies of the gods. He became one of the Aesir, or the gods, when he became blood brother to Odin.
Loki tricked Balder's blind brother into killing Balder, and for this act he was bound by the gods until Ragnarok, which is the final battle of the gods.
Loki was the father of Hel, Fenris-Wolf, who is prophesized to kill Odin in the Ragnarok, and the Midgard Serpent, which is prophesized to kill Thor in the Ragnarok.
