My Gardening Page

Outside of house work, I probably spend more time working on my garden than on anything else. It's a reasonably sized plot and there's always more than enough to keep me busy.

One of the greatest pleasures of gardening is being able to eat your own freshly harvested produce. To that end, I have a large vegtable plot, and a large greenhouse. The other aspect of my garden is relaxation. I feel blessed to have this one small piece of planet Earth to tend.

I am a intermediate gardener, working on a acre lot in the city, using raised beds for my vegetables and rock gardens around my lawn for perennials and ornamentals. I have almost an acre of land on which to garden. Eventually I want to add ponds and develop a area of prairie of native wildflowers.

So if you're feeling blue and at dismay, sick or stressed, here's my prescription for a garden cure. Go outside and stand in the sun and wind. Take your shoes off. Put the soles of your feet firmly on mother earth. Look at a tree. Keep looking till you feel better. It's the best nateral remedy of all.

I have 10 rose bushes planted so far. 2 Mister Lincoln's, John F.Kennedy, a Tropicanna, 2 climbing roses a red and yellow planted this year, I can't wait till they start to climb and several misc. Roses..

And at Last count I had 16 Lilac Bushes.. They are so pretty when they are in bloom. And have a such a nice scent. I love them even tho my allergies do go nuts when they are in bloom..

This Year I planted a Rhubarb plant, My kids & I don't like the stuff but my Hubby loves fresh rhubarb pie, So i planted one to see if i could grow it and so far it is doing great, if it does well I will plant more.

I started all my vegtable and some flowers from seed this year.. They are did so well i had to many and had to give several away.. I planted corn, peas, radishes, beets, cabbage, pumpkins, catalope, Zuhcinni, about 30 tomato plants , several varieties, carrots, fennel, corriander, Cucumber, lettuce, bell peppers, and jalepeno's. Sunflowers, maigolds, and wild flowers.

I have learned so much this year, how to tell whether my Quaking aspen are male or female, the age of trees. How to collect seeds from many variety of plants, learned to propergate plant starts.. I hope someday to have my own little back yard nursery. The commercial nurseries have gone up so much in price, that practically costs an arm and leg anymore to get trees and shrubs let alone your flowers..
