NSW Jumping Equitation Championships

The NSW Jumping Equitation Championships held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC) on Sunday 11th November was a resounding success on many levels. The superb venue- a legacy of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games was the perfect setting for beautifully presented horses and riders to showcase their jumping style and skills. The John Vallance designed courses were flowing, friendly and appropriately testing for the many different grades.

NSW JEC President , Katrina Dukats said, "We are delighted with the success of the Championships and especially thrilled with very high standard of competition in the Junior ranks."

Judges in the Championship ring, Megan Joerg, Ben Netterfield and Cynthia Jobe Parker had a tough time deciding the champions in the four major divisions judged in the indoor arena.

The Junior division was a stylish win to Emily Blinkworth riding her newly acquired mount "Beetle" (formerly owned by south coast rider Jamie Grant).

Runner up was Jessica Brown (daughter of Olympian and former National Coach Rod Brown) riding the miniature- Milton   "Kepler".

The Young Rider Championship went to Bryia Andersen from the Central coast riding "Clark Kent". Bryia who has only recently returned from a winter of showjumping in Europe did a sterling job to ride so well with the pain of several stitches and bruising on her hip as a result of being kicked during the week. Runner up was George Johnson of Nelson riding Peter Curl's delightful Thoroughbred "Titian".

The Senior Amateur was good win to Queenslander Dean Collins riding "Keyto", with Sandy Parker runner up on the beautifully elegant "Melody Fair".

The Senior Professional Championships was a close result with Damien Guthrie riding "Bobs Your Uncle" taking the title from Andrew Inglis on "Elvis".

The outside ring was a mixture of Classic Jumper and Combined Equitation height events. Impressive wins in this ring included those  of young Amy Grech from Cooma on "Nutmeg", Helen McGaskill on her promising young Gullit mare "Gellana" and Alice Johnson riding her quarter horse cross gelding "Bozeman".
