James and Johanna left Ireland and settled in Englewood, Bergen County, NJ, USA. They are listed there in the 1880 US Census. They owned quite a bit of land in Englewood and several rental properties.

Their daughter Alice married Richard Quirk on Feb. 10, 1891 in St. Cecilia's RC Church in Englewood. They had 10 children: Edward (b. 1893), James (b. 1897), Philip (b. 1903), Johanna (b. 1905), Daniel (b. 1907), Frances (b. 1912), Margaret (b. 1911), Lilliam (b. ?), Julia (b. 1897 - she and James were twins), and Richard (b. ?).
