| THE WOMAN OF SAMARIA Shunned by the other women, She came all alone in the noon day heat To draw from Jacob's well ~ So as not the others she would meet. * This day would be like no other. She would meet her destiny. For, there sat a stranger. She was who he had come to meet. * As she set about her daily chore, He asked a drink from her. Astonished by his asking, Surely a Jewess he would prefer. * "You have not a vessel," she cried, "And this well is very deep, my Lord" ~ Knowing not that she would receive The living water he had poured. * "If you drink from this well," he said, "You will thirst, again. But, I will give you new water That will wash away your sin." * She stepped in closer as she listened. Tell me, sir, "How can that be?" "You will never thirst again," he said, "If you put your trust in me. * Go tell thy husband these things." But, so shy she hung her head, "Indeed I have no living husband." "I know. It is as you said. * You have had two or more And, now, you live in sin. But, I can wash you white as snow And you can be pure again. * For I am the Living Water And your forgiveness I now pour. Drink from this cup, My child, and sin no more. * Come," He says, "Drink your fill. For, I am the Living Water, Sent to do the Father's will." *** 2003 by Sandra Griffin http://www.our.homewithgod.com/sandra http://poetrypoem.com/inhimthroughhimforhimsandy |
