Breastfeeding is the BEST!!! It's environmentally sound, all natural, user-friendly, healthy, economical, easy... So why NOT give your baby the BEST start in life?

I have breastfed both of my children. It is the safest healthiest easiest and least expensive way to nurture a young child. After all, God gave women breasts to feed their children so why not use them? This is just as natural as propping a young child onto your rounded hips. The American Accademy of Pediatrics recommends that you breastfeed your baby for at LEAST the first year of life. The average age for weaning a child worldwide is between 3 1/2 and 7 years old. Many companies are trying to promote their formula products as "the next best thing." My question to you is why settle for second best? Look at it this way. It's 3 a.m. and your baby just woke up hungry. Do you REALLY want to stumble into the kitchen, measure out the formula, mix it into the bottled water, (my gosh, what if you're OUT of something or need to sterilize a bottle?) heat it to the right temperature (remember no microwaving!!!) and THEN try to calm your now frantic baby down enough to feed him? NOT ME!!! I would MUCH prefer to just whip out my ready-made, perfect-temperature breast, and get some sleep! In all fairness, I know that there are a FEW people who are physically unable to nurse their babies, and I respect them. But there is a difference between being physically unable to breastfeed, and just choosing not to. You know the difference! In my opinion, there is no excuse for CHOOSING not to breastfeed. |
