Chapter 10

She sighed contently as she opened her eyes. It was still dark so she assumed that it was sometime in the middle of the night. She looked down at her waist with a smile. His naked arm was draped around her tee shirt covered body.

Last night they talked, last night they kissed.

Earlier, she mused to herself. He came home after Raw and had a pleading look in his eye, wondering if what Shane said was true. She told him her plan. She wanted him to turn heel. She wanted Chris on her side and it all made sense when she helped him win the title. But now, she was so confused. Why did she want him on her side? He was horrible to her, with that entire name calling and insulting. How could she think that he would befriend her and fight for her. It was slowly starting to hit her that she wanted Chris around. She could deal with the petty jokes and cruel remarks; she could dish them at as well, as long as it meant being around him, feeling his presence, knowing that this man wouldnt hurt her. He would kiss her, he would call her a trash bag ho, but Chris would never attack her with a sledgehammer. And that was why she wanted him on her side. That was why she wanted him around. That was why she was falling

Chris looked down at her while she absently stroked his hand with her tiny fingers. He could almost see the wheels turning in her head. She was thinking about something intently and if she were like him, she was thinking about what went on earlier in the evening. He came to talk but then they kissed and the whole earth moved. He couldnt stop after that one. So they kissed and kissed and kept on kissing. Soon their clothes were falling to the floor and they ended up the way they were now.
He was in his puppy dog boxers and she was in a short gray shirt from Walmart. They had to stop kissing. Chris knew where a moment of passion could lead and he wasnt sure he was ready to go there. Didnt they hate each other a few weeks ok? Werent they trying to outwit each other with verbal insults? Didnt she look so unbelievably hot when she came out in those matching vinyl shorts and boots?
That lace top almost did him in.
Now, they were here, in each others arms, and he didnt want to go back to sleep. He wanted to savor all these minutes that they had left together before they had to get up and face the world, face reality.

She was married and he was supposed to be her enemy.

What are you thinking about? She whispered.

Chris looked down and saw her blue eyes looking up at him with a small smile on her face. Without any make up, she was the most beautiful woman in the world; hell she was even gorgeous with it.

Us. He whispered, brushing some hair out of her face. What happened earlier, whats going to happen when the sun comes up.

What is going to happen? She asked as she entwined their fingers.

I wish I knew. He smiled. I think we still have more we need to talk about.

Yeah, we kinda stopped talking.

And started kissing. He smiled. I liked that better.

She rolled over, her tee shirt riding up on her thighs and revealing a little of her cute white panties with butterflies on them. Chris tugged the shirt down, covering her up as much as he could.

Thank you.

Im doing it more for myself, than you. He groaned.

She laughed softly as she brought her fingers up and started playing with his hair. What do you think we should talk about?

About me defecting to WCW. Chris said. We could still work it out somehow.

Well. Stephanie said. I think there might be a way where we could all win.

Want to tell me about it?

She nodded. What if you slowly become the new leader of the Alliance? You hold both title belts now and I know that Stone Cold is going to keep demanding rematches, so what if we make you once of us. You can help the guys, you can be the person that they come to.

Like Rob Van Damn. Chris smirked.

Youre better than Rob. Stephanie smiled. Much better.

And you would know about that

Chris.

He grinned. I couldnt pass it up, sorry. He added, dropping a kiss on her nose.

So. She said with a smile. We can slowly convince the Alliance guys that the WWF is the way to go.

The WWF?

Yes. Stephanie said. I dont trust anyone in my family but I know a good company when I see it. Theyre not going down, nothing can take them down, so we need to align ourselves with them. Then you can tell Daddy that it was your idea the whole time.

How about I tell Vance that it was our idea. Chris said. Or better yet, yours. Then maybe hell be nicer once you let him know that you want to join the WWF. Dont you think?

Stephanie nodded slowly. I did a lot of damage to my family. I dont think theyll ever want me back.

We did a lot of damage to each other. Chris said. No one wouldve guessed that we would wind up in the same bed in only our drawers.

Stephanie laughed and then grew silent, her face turning serious.

Whats the matter? Chris asked.

About the kiss. She whispered, avoiding his eyes. She took a deep breath and looked up at him. Im married.

I know. He said quietly.

I know Hunters not around but I still love him and I dont think that

Its ok. Chris said with a small smile. You dont have to explain. I dont think were use to being friends with one another and things just got carried away. Ill see you

Dont leave. She said holding onto his arm. Just for tonight, stay?

Chris looked at her, those adoring eyes, that tempting body. His mind was screaming run while you can but his heart was saying something else. He pushed the covers down a little and she slid under. He then joined her and she moved back into his arms, resting her head against his bare chest.

The only place that felt right.

Chris came downstairs the next morning in just a pair of sweatpants. He was trying to run his fingers through his hair but there were so many knots in it so he just gave up. He skipped his shower before he left the arena and came right home to Stephanie so he had to make sure he got one right after his coffee. When he saw Matt, Jeff, and Benoit sitting around the couch talking quietly he knew that was a long time coming.

Chris. Matt said poking his head out of the group. Hey.

What are you doing here? Chris asked. Arent you supposed to be on your way to Cincinnati?

We called last night. Jeff said. Told Benoit were on our way. Im surprised he didnt tell you.

I did. Benoit said.

Oh is that what you mumbled on the way out the door? Chris asked as he moved to sit down in a chair.

He was so intent on getting to Stephanie that he had no clue what else was going on around him. Benoit said to the Hardys. Im surprised he made it back here safely.

You two seem to be spending a lot of time together. Jeff remarked.

Im watching out for her. I have to spend time with her. Chris said.

You dont have to sleep in the same room with her. Matt remarked quietly.

Chris head whipped in his direction. They knew that he and Stephanie shared a room together last night.

I checked on you. Matt said. I thought you might need to talk. When you werent in bed I assumed you were with her. I was right.

We had a lot of talking to

It doesnt take eight hours to have a conversation. Benoit snapped.

Chris, were just worried about you. Jeff said. I mean, are you sure you can trust her? You heard what Shane said last night.

Yes, I did. We discussed it.

Do you also know shes married? Matt asked.

Yes, Matt, I do remember that. Chris said angrily.

You should have before you slept with her. Matt said. Id kill the jackass that spent the night with Lita.

Stephanies not Lita. Chris said standing up.

Damn straight. Litas got more sense. Matt said. And Hunter is going to kill you when he finds out.

Hunter cant find out. Stephanie said from the stairs. She saw four heads swivel her way and Chris quickly started to make his way towards her. No. She said putting her hand up.

Chris stopped dead in his tracks and he knew that he might not like what was coming.

Chris and I shared a bed, thats all. Stephanie said. I grew dependent on him because he saved me. He rescued me from my brother hitting me with a sledgehammer. Im going to be forever grateful for that. I got attached, I shouldnt have but I did. I havent felt this secure in the past few months with Hunter being away. Im sorry if I hurt you Chris or made your friends feel uncomfortable. I didnt mean to.

But you didnt

I think we should all head to Cincinnati. Stephanie said. Except for Benoit who needs to get back to therapy. Youre going to be a fierce competitor when you get back. You still frighten people, especially me.

Benoit grunted and Stephanie quickly moved the conversation elsewhere.

Im going to show them Im no longer afraid. Stephanie said.

Are you sure this is a good idea? Chris asked as he moved closer to her.

Positive. Stephanie said. Its time to get things back to normal.

Chris looked dejected. He felt like the wedge was being placed right back between them.
