First of all, HAPPY EASTER! I had to write that to remind myself that today is Easter Sunday. Life has been rather hectic for the past week or so and I'm a bit fuzzy about what day it is. Working backwards from today... Work has been it's most frustrating and challenging this past week. There was a problem with a critical system used to get ads in the paper and I was tagged to be on the team that got it working properly. That meant a few very long days and late nights... As I write this I am still a bit concerned that my pager is going to go off and the problems still persist. I am periodicly checking on the backup for today to make sure... Somewhere in the middle of the mess I got a phone call from a major internet company in response to an application I filled out on-line. It was on a whim that I applied for a job they had posted on their web page. They liked my resume enough to schedule a telephone interview which I thought went OK... In between the interview and the e-mail that said thanks but no thanks, I had moved to San Diego, California in my fantasies, complete with all the gory details! Well, now that reality has slapped me in the face again, life in Chicago looks pretty damn good! The things we're doing with our tiny apartment are starting to take shape slowly but nicely. I've also been buying toys and other things as part of the whole process. The most important toys have been digital home recording studio equipment. I now have the hardware to record and make my own CD's. Now, I need to learn how to do it. I'm making some progress. I've burned a couple of CD's already BUT they sound crappy and I know professional sounding CD's can come out of the burner once I get the damn thing figured out... There are several projects in my head for CD's. The first will be a single. I want to get a good recording of "Rollos In My Stocking". That song is a colaboration with Patrick Brooks (his lyrics) and myself. I will be working on the arrangement first. I'd like to have strings and percussion and a lot of the stuff missing from my other recordings... The other major toy is my purchase of a notebook computer... I have to move out of the room where I have the computers now and have no place to put them. So, I need to get all the stuff I have on the two computers set up in what is to become Jordan's bedroom for the summer working on the notebook. Once that is done I will have compressed my computing to a space on the new shelves in the living room. It's going to take me awhile before I can turn off the ones I am using now. There's a lot of crap I need to transfer. Other things... I'll be living the jet-set life for a couple weeks in May. The first trip is to San Francisco for a day of training. Then, a few days after that I'll be off to Denmark for four more days of training on something else... Other things II ... "The Last Dinner Party of Christ" opens in rep with, "The Madonna - In Spite of Herself" and "Jesus - The Wonder Years" on April 29, 2000. I will once again be playing the part of Tumbleweed. Except for the two performances that happen while I am in Denmark... The way I figure, I'll catch up on my sleep Memorial Day weekend. |
