Sunday night, I'm tired and would like to go to bed early but... I just got home from spending the day at the theatre. The production of "The Last Dinner Party of Christ" is going well. Today was "tech day" where the things like lighting queues, props and costumes were the magor issues. I find it hard to believe it's been over a month since I last wrote any thing for my "Rambles...". Plus SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED SINCE THEN!!! I bought a new car, the trip to Arizona, I got a gig... Yep, I bought a new car... I made the decision sitting at the dinner table one night and asked Alison, "If you were going to buy a car tomorrow what would it be?" My answer was a Saturn and her's was to. I went to Saturn's web site and picked out the car that I wanted and filled out the financing form. the next day the local Saturn dealer called. He just got the finacial poop so I had to remember all the options I picked... A CD player, floor mats, cruise control, ABS and upgraded suspension, alloy wheels AND RED! Chicago is a new city now because I drive through places you don't even think about when limited to the "El". (and I like it :-) The dealer didn't have the car I wanted and so he placed an order to have it built. The timing was good and we got the car in less than two weeks. There's now a 1000+ miles on it. Between the time we got the car and when we left for Arizona I made and distributed a bunch of demo tapes in my quest to get a gig. Most places wanted a couple of weeks or more to listen to it and decide. So the week in Arizona made waiting a lot easier. The only big glitch in the whole trip was forgetting to "spring" our clocks ahead and rushing franticly to get to our flight. A goofy thing on the flight to Phoenix was stopping for gas in Lincoln, Nebraska. They told us about it before we took off and it added about 45 minute to the flight. I met a major chunk of Alison's family within 2 hours of our arrival. The touristie things we did bsides "shop" were a tour of Taliesin (Frank Lloyd Wright's School of Architecture) and a trip to a train museum and park where we went for a ride on a mini train. After we got back I started following up on my demos... I got rejected pretty quickly by some clubs because they didn't book solo acoustic acts. It was pretty discouraging but what seemed like out of the blue to me, I got a call last Thursday (4/14) and was offered one of two nights to open at a place called Thurston's. I got so excited I forgot about the show and told them I'd do it on a night of a performance... I called back as soon as I realized what I had done and re-scheduled for April 29. I've been rebuilding my web page to focus on my music stuff. I've been watching my hit counter and I'm pretty sure I'm the only one looking at my web site at the moment. So if you have some time check it out and let me know what would help it... I guess that's all for now... |
