Lots has happened since August 31... The big event has been my resignation from Sprint Paranet. Even though I wanted to make 10/15 my last day I will continue to work for them until the end of the month or I get and accept a good job offer. In the mean time I've been updating my web page to facilitate the dissemination of my resume to all those folks who want it sent via e-mail... Juno does not do attachments unless you give them some money... So, I am gearing up for scarcity-mode-living and will be using the library to maintain my web page. My web access is very limited right now and I need to make sure I won't loose it all together when I'm not working... (which is probably NOT going to happen...) My goal for this weekend is to get this "Ramble..." out to you all and get my web page updated... http://www.geocities.com/sunsetstrip/frontrow/3662 Labor Day weekend and the following week I was in Minneapolis packing and getting Alison ready for her move here to Chicago. Everything went smoothly except for our stop to say so long to one of Alison's friends. I was going to follow her to her friends place of work and we got separated. All I knew was that he was a mechanic in Shakopee. I drove into Shakopee hoping I would see her but gave up. I tried leaving a message on her voice mail hoping she might think to check it since we had no other method to communicate... After waiting at the SA for 15 minutes I headed back towards her old apartment thinking she would eventually go back there or I would see her waiting on the side of the rode for me... As I'm driving back towards her old apartment she pulls up beside me and we pull over... I was so relieved and angry I didn't know what to say. Anyway, out next stop was the junk yard where we disposed of her car. We knew it would not make the trip to Chicago without spending over $1000 to fix all the things that were wrong with it so it had to go... From there we headed across the south eastern part of Minnesota and got on I-90 for the boring drive to Chicago. That was over a month ago now and we've gotten fairly well settle for the moment. Alison has adapted quite well to car free living. As far as the music thang goes... I found a new-to-me open mic on Thursday nights that I really like. The people there are friendly, the beer is cheap AND they let me play my guitar and sing. So, I found a place to get my performance fix. They have a tape deck connected to the sound system and will record your set if you give them a blank tape. I forgot to take a tape with me the last time I went... I'm thinking, if I get a good recording of the sets I do there then I'll consider putting it out on another CD. I'll let you know when and if that's gonna happen... The other music thang is the "Chicago Songwriters Collective's '98 Song Fest" I got the 1:30am slot for this event at the Abbey Pub on November 7. I haven't picked what songs I'll play yet. I was told 15 minutes worth ... I signed up with the collective a couple of months ago and haven't done anything to get involved. This one is going to be fun! I look forward to hangin' out with a bunch of songwriters who I get the feeling are a fun bunch of folks. Well... I guess that's all for now. |
