Another gig

Hey, here's another boring account of what's happening here in Chicago... I got my next gig set for May 8. I'll open for Billy Peiffer and IOWA at Monday's downstairs. I'm also trying to motivate to get some more gigs scheduled for this summer.

For the locals on my Ramble list... here's the details for May 8:

Monday's 75 W. Harrison - Chicago (downtown..) (Between Clark and Dearborn) Harrison is one block south of Congress... PH: 312 663 3647 Music starts at 8:00

$10 ticket price (Includes CD: "Tales from the Corn Belt" by Billy Peiffer & IOWA (you buy a ticket and you get Billy's CD...)

I was pleasantly surprised when George (the manager at Monday's) asked me if I wanted to open for his friend on May 8. I wasn't even sure he knew I played guitar and sang. I didn't even ask if I would get paid before I said, "Yeah sure! I'd love to... How long do you want me to play?" He told me I could play as long as I wanted to and I responded with, "OK, I'll play for 3 hours." He laughed and responded with, "OK you go on at 5 o'clock." Anyway, I got a copy of Billy's CD and really like it. I sort of jokingly ask George the other night if Billy would get mad if I covered one of his songs. George loved the idea and told me Billy would love it. So, I picked one of the songs from the CD and have listened to at least a hundred times in the last week and have started practicing it for myself. I hope I am comfortable with come May 8th. I don't want to wreck one of his songs... but then again he'll have the chance to play it the right way later.

Other than my music thang, life has changed very little since my last Ramble. Work is OK and almost exciting. My trip to Minnesota for Easter was great. I saw most of you while I was there... so I don't feel the need to elaborate on it here.

I finally did the research to find out how much it would cost to put out the CD I have sitting here with the recording I did with Hook. I've started budgeting and if no major expenses show up in the next month I'll be dropping off my master to get 1000 made after I get paid May 15...

The only other thing I've been doing is preparing myself for "The Minnetonka Challenge". Monday, this week, I finally made the commitment to hit the pool everyday and did it. I tried reserving a lane at 6:00 AM for about 3 weeks and someone always beat me to it. So, after 3 weeks I finally realized that swimming a mile everyday was more important than swimming it at 6:00 AM. That means I've been swimming at 8:00 PM because it's the only time slot that fits my schedule right now. I'm hoping the people who are using the pool at 6 AM burn out and I can get in there in the mornings again like I used to. In the mean time I'm counting down the weeks (12!) before I hit Lake Minnetonka at Excelsior and head for Wayazata.

Once again this is a short one but then that's a good sign. No major frustrations or things that are only funny after the fact to write about this time.
