Fear not, the weekly soccer/teaching update is on its way, but I thought you might want to know how the Lolita story ended...

The day after I sent out that email, I was at lunch in the mall and saw Lolita and some boy walking around and holding hands. I was devastated! That hussy! Flaunting her new boy-toy right in front of me and her friends. =) In class she started flirting with me and I mentioned something about her boyfriend and she tried to say that she had actually just broken up with him but I pretended that I was really upset and wanted nothing to do with her. I hope you all know that I wasn't really upset.

Anyway, the next day one of the boys in class asked "when are you going to take us out drinking?" Well, the legal age here is 19 but that doesn't usually matter. But regardless, I can't really go out drinking with my students. So I said "oh, I don't think we'll be doing that" but one of the kids said "what if we just happened to run into you someplace?" I could see where this was going.

So Lolita chimes in and says "where are you going tonight?" and even though I didn't have any plans, I said that I was going to the bar right up the street from the office. She said "what time? I'll meet you there" and I was like "yeah, sure you will". But she insisted that she would.

I talked my roommate into going to the bar at 6:00 and he thought this was all very amusing. Sort of like trying to call her bluff. Well, thirty minutes later, who walks in but Lolita and her sidekick? I couldn't believe it!! I thought it was pretty bold, that's for sure. They sat with us and it was tremendously awkward for them. I was sort of laughing on the inside but a little nervous of getting caught. But I wasn't buying them drinks or anything so I was pretty safe. After about 20 minutes they made up some story about having to meet some friends somewhere and they left. I could tell they were nervous. I only told a few other teachers because I definitely didn't want that info getting around.

Unfortunately it has been all downhill since. Like most of my students, she is a spoiled little brat who acts like a princess and tries to get away with murder. So the other day she comes into class, chats with her friends for five minutes, and announces that she is sick and needs to go home. I have been teaching for just one month but have heard this story a dozen times. They are just bored and want to leave so they make this up. But I couldn't bother to argue about it so I sent her on her merry way.

The next day she said she needed to leave because someone was stalking her. I thought this was quite original but pressed for more details, just to see what she could come up with. Not impressed with her tale, I said that she had to stay. But when I gave a 10-minute break during class, she disappeared. That was pretty much the last straw. I know I am just an overpaid babysitter but that was a bit disrespectful.

Saturday was the last day of class and most kids don't bother to show up at all because all they do is take another diagnostic test to see if there had been any improvement. So you can imagine I was shocked to actually see her in the building ten minutes before class. I said "what are you doing here? I didn't expect to see you today" and she said "I'm not staying; it's my mom's birthday and I have to go home now". I was incredulous at this point. "Why do you even bother to show up so you can just lie to me and leave?" I asked. She said "no, I'm serious. How come you don't believe me anymore?" I shook my head, replied "I just don't care anymore", turned my back and walked away.

The end.

Chris
