14 July 2003.

Well, this is it. Finally I have hit 30. I was doing okay with the whole thing until I saw a birthday card from my dad, one of those "now you're 30 ha ha ha" cards. And just seeing the number "3" in that first digit... wow, it really hit me.

It's been a "birthday celebration weekend" around here:

Friday night Vivi took me to Bennigan's for dinner (this is a big deal for us... Cartman would have been jealous!) and then we went to see "Chicago" (on stage). It's actually the same production company that was performing in London! So the two lead actresses were the same. I saw it twice in London and saw the movie two or three times, but I was still pretty excited about it. Vivi didn't like the movie so much but she really enjoyed the show. It made us both realize that we don't go to the theater (or to jazz clubs) nearly enough.

Saturday night all of my friends and I got together to celebrate. We went to a bar called Murphy's Irish Pub. Seriously! I picked it for obvious reasons. About 20 friends showed up and I was really, really happy to get everyone in the same place. It made me feel really good. I expected that most people would put in the obligatory appearance and then go elsewhere (this bar is about 45 minutes away from where we live), but just about everyone stayed the whole time. It was great, though I honestly don't remember much about the last two hours I was there (after the whiskey shots started). =)

Yes, of course there are pictures!

Sunday I spent the day recovering. Twenty-four hours later and I STILL felt like crap. I guess now that I'm old I can't drink like I used to!

Monday is the big day and so I am taking the day off from work. I have some papers to grade (sigh) but am meeting Vivi for lunch and then we're going to spend the day together. It should be pretty low-key.
