I was looking at the end of the previous update, where I pointed out that March went by really fast. I guess that was to be expected, since I was so busy at the beginning of the month and then was so looking forward to going to America at the end. But April has gone by just as fast.
Teaching has continued to go well. This month I only have three weekday classes (instead of the usual four), and those classes only have about 5 or 6 students each. My Saturday class only has three students. I have also changed the curriculum so that I am having the students write essays for homework, instead of in class. This means that I can correct them in class, and thus I don't have to grade them at home. Yes, it really did take me seven months to work this out. As Rob said, "You catch on reeeeeeal slow, dontcha?"
The other big news related to teaching is that I rewrote the textbook we use for the class. The Princeton Review printed it and now I can say I am a published author! It's nothing special, really. Only about 50 pages of original content, but it's still pretty cool to see my name on it.
I started taking language classes again this month. I retook the class that I took last December as a "refresher". Maybe I didn't really need to, in fact, because everything came back to me very quickly and I was surprised at how much I remembered. But I feel pretty confident in my ability to read, write, and speak. Listening, on the other hand, is a different story! But that's what I want to get better at. The other day I took a Korean proficiency test. It was actually just a practice test, actually. There are six levels of proficiency and I took level 1. Very, very basic. A passing grade is 60% and I got 90%. Kick ass! So I guess I know basic Korean.
Vivi and I passed six months last weekend. God, talk about time flying by. In Korea, anniversaries are generally celebrated every 100 days, rather than based on the calendar months, but we had a nice dinner at a Swiss fondue restaurant and celebrated anyway.
Even though we have had a day or two that flirted with being considered "too warm", it is still definitively spring. Some days are rainy but for the most part the weather has been very lovely. We caught a few baseball games already and hopefully will get a few more in before being outside becomes too unbearable.
