Saturday was my first day of teaching. The one thing I did NOT want to do was drink too much Friday night, but guess what happened. We started off by watching "Swingers" in our apartment, and it was all downhill from there. I didn't even think I had had all that much to drink, until it was 3:00 and they were throwing us out of The Flair (which closes at 2). Then I seem to recall sitting in a chair at home and for no apparent reason falling off the chair. So I knew it was time to go to bed.
I woke up Saturday morning feeling like death and went to work. My class was at noon and I walked up the stairs at 11:59 thinking "oh my God, I totally do NOT want to do this today". I walked into the classroom and immediately noticed that the lights were off and that was a bit weird. Then I noticed... no students. Dare I dream the impossible dream that no students are showing up for class?? Is God smiling upon me?
I waited for about five minutes, and still no students. So I went to the front desk and asked if I was in the right classroom and they said yes. Unfortunately, I was two hours early. The class was at 2, not noon. I was pretty pissed off because my boss had told me that the class was at noon and I REALLY could have used two extra hours of sleep. It was too far for me to go back home so I just hung out in the computer room for a while and ran an errand at the mall.
When I came back from the mall, the girls at the front desk were giggling and I thought nothing of it. They called me over (which in itself is weird because I didn't think they knew who I was) and in a mix of English and Korean managed to convey to me that not only was I two hours early, I was two hours and a WEEK early because that class started the NEXT Saturday. D'oh! At this point, being angry never even crossed my mind. I was just SO happy not to have to teach, I was practically giddy. I rushed home and went straight back to sleep. =)
Epilogue: It's a good thing that I *didn't* have to teach. When I got home it was 2:00 and I slept for about ninety minutes and then woke up at 3:30 to find my roommate still sound asleep from the night before. Knowing that he had to teach at 4, I woke him up and was like "uh, you better get going dude". If I had been teaching, he definitely would have slept through class.
