"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" --which means, "God with us."
This is from the sunday (12/10/2000) gospel reading when he first visited the church as soon as he landed US from France, even before realizing his existance. The promise was proved in the next two months and he was given the Immanuel's name.
The cross in Christ gives salvation to mankind. The humanly possible Christlikeness is termed as Chris, Christ without cross (chris t).
