| Juan Dolio Approximately 24 kms east of Santo Domingo Las Americas Airport are the adjacent beach towns of Juan Dolio and Guayacanes. Known for their calm Caribbean water and relaxing pace, this is the place for those who just want to relax. Juan Dolio village is small with some bars and restaurants. Visitors can choose from a variety of fine restaurants and caf�s, ranging from informal to casually elegant. There is even a pizzeria now with a giant satellite dish so that tourists don't have to miss seeing that important soccer, baseball, basketball or hockey game. There is a dive shop where you can rent equipment and a Go-Kart track where you can rent karts to race. Also located a short distance away is an 18 hole golf course at the Metro Country Club. The main attraction of this area are the beaches. Large all-inclusive resorts line the beach front. These areas are mostly self contained with the resorts offering most of the entertainment, restaurants, discos and casinos for your enjoyment. The main road connects to all the important and interesting places (Santo Domingo: 45 km; Santo Domingo International Airport: 30 km; San Pedro de Macoris: 15 km; La Romana, Casa de Campo, Altos de Chavon: 60 km; Bayahibe, Club Dominicus, Isla Saona: 80 km.) making it easy to take in the many side trips available. Just 10 miles east is the sea port town of San Pedro de Marcois where most of the Baseball players from the Dominican Republic come from. San Pedro is the hometown of Chicago Cubs' Sammy Sosa. For visitors to this area in the winter months, they can take in a game at the local stadium Estadio Tetelo Vargas the home of the Estrellas Orientales (Eagles) |
