Selena Story On April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas, Selena was born. She was the youngest of three children that were born to Abraham and Marcella Quintanilla. Selena and her moved to Corpus Christi. In the early 80's, Selena had already begun working alongside her family. She took the place as the lead singer of the their band, Selena Y Los Dinos. It was more than a weekend hobby, the band became the family's livelihood. With her brother A.B. on bass and her sister Suzette on drums, the young group, managed by their father, toured the state of Texas performing for weddings and small clubs. Recognized for their talent and lively stage performances, Selena Y Los Dinos signed with EMI Latin. Her life was cut short on March 31, 1995. --By the age of 23, Selena released two gold albums and one platinum, and she was recording the project that promised to launch her into the realm of true superstar success. She was working with some of popular music's foremost talents. Selena seemed destined to win millions of more fans with a breakthrough, crossover album, "Dreaming of You,"and indeed she did. Fans new and old made enormous hits of "I Could Fall in Love" and "Dreaming of You," tender, mid-tempo ballads featuring Selena's unmistakable, sensitive voice soaring sweetly. But these smashes would be among the last recordings Selena would ever make. Selena was raised in the suburbs of South Texas and became the brightest star ever to emerge from the regional music scene known as "Tejano." "Tejano" integrates the traditions of polka, rock, R&B, pop and traditional Latin influences. She transcended that genre and become one of the biggest Latina music stars in the world, charting hit after hit and supported by thousands of fans who would turn out to see her dazzling live performances. She won a Grammy Award, the music industry's highest honor, and placed five albums on the Billboard charts at one time. She fell in love and got married. She reached success surrounded and supported by her family, who accompanied her on stage and on the road. She launched a successful clothing line and string of boutiques. Her confident, exuberant and sensuous style was imitated by swarms of fans who sang her lyrics word-for-word and mirrored her dance moves wherever she went. For countless young dreamers, Selena was an inspirational symbol of pride and accomplishment. But, on that brink of true superstardom, her rocketing ascent was cut short by a tragedy by a women called Yolanda Saldivar, no one could have ever foreseen it.
