First leg of the Journey. July 30th: Racine, WI to Gothenburg, Nebraska.
Train World in Iowa.

It has a huge setup of Lionel trains, though I must say that its too bad they charge you to take a walk through the layout.  It was a time-killing albeit brief stop.
The Golden Spike Monument in Council Bluffs, Nebraska.

The big claim to fame this monument has is that it marks "Where the East meets West." . . . The Eastern Terminus of the Union Pacific Railroad.

In case you're wondering, this is NOT the place where the first transcontinental railroad was completed. (That is in Promontory Summit . .. I think.)
Brisbane Park, Council Bluffs, NE.

I saw signs for the official museum of the Union Pacific Railroad, but unfortunately, they are closed every Monday all day.

This park was just up the road from the museum. I thought it looked interesting, so here's the photo.

One of only two remaining Pony Express stations. Gothenburg, NE.

If you ever drive through Nebraska, this is a worthwhile stop. Gothenburg is a nice place to spend the night (which I did), and this little cabin is a great little Historical experience. Crazy to think that this was once the best way to send a letter.

They charged $5 an ounce.

The next leg of my journey took me through
Colorado.
