Jon's Review      14.3.03
Of all the movies starring Christopher Lambert I have seen, Priceless Beauty would have to be my least favourite I'm afraid.
I'm not enjoying saying this, but almost everything about
Priceless Beauty is bad.
The direction is bad, the writing is bad, the music is worse. It's really such a pity, because the overall idea sounds great: Christophe's character discovers a genie-in-a-bottle that will turn out to be his wife in real life! But I'm afraid there's not much fun to be had.

There's only one shining light in this mess of a movie, and that's Diane Lane.
She gives a wonderful performance here, and with her natural beauty and grace shining though, it's no wonder Christophe fell in love with her.
She out-acts the latter off the screen, who gives a pretty ordinary performance.
You can forgive him somewhat though, since his character is pretty poorly written, but he's miscast anyway..
Never once did I care about him, and the rock-star element is boring and a waste of time.
All the other characters are just awful, and dull as ditchwater, with lifeless performances from the actors no help. When I give three stars for 'supporting cast' in the ratings below, it's thanks to Diane Lane, otherwise it'd probably one and a half.

The director obviously thinks it's a great idea to stretch almost every scene out for as  long as possible, and the closest thing to a 'love dream' you'll be experiencing is when you've nodded off during any scene not featuring one of the two stars.

Did I mention how bad the music is? It's bloody loud too, so every time there's an all too brief break from that horrible din and we actually get a few lines of dialogue, I have to grab for the remote to turn the volume up to hear what they're saying, then turning it back down again a minute later when the music starts again.

I know I've given
Pricless Beauty a bit of a mauling, but with it being a co-production between several countries including Italy and Canada, it's evident no one knew where they were going with this movie, least of all the writer/director Charles Finch.
Such a pity to waste the talents of both Lambet and Lane, and the only reason to seek this obscure title out is too marvel at the latters valiant attempt to rise above the material, or to see if I'm eggagerating and it's actually a lot better than I've made out... Boy, am I disapointed though.

Not a chance.
I doubt there's many Aussies other than me that have this in
their video collection
You have to buy it from individual sellers and not the normal way. It's not something I'm familiar with.
It's been 'deleted,' so you'll have to do a pricey 'video search' if you're that keen to have it
