Editor, the News-Sentinel:

The Shays-Meehan bill should be retitled the Incumbent Protection Act, since that is what it really is. I agree that there is a big problem. However, it is not the money; it is the power.

We ought to be asking ourselves why corporations and special-interest groups are willing to give politicians millions of dollars in the first place. It is because they can always count on our elected officials to deliver the goods. What is really needed is a return to the republican (not to be confused with the Republican Party) form of government provided for in the U.S. Constitution.

Our elected officials have no business telling people how they can spend their money or how much money they wish to donate, be it the Libertarian Party, Green Party or any other party.

Your freedoms should not be restricted because your elected officials won't uphold their oath.
