A No. 18 Sqdn. RAF Blenheim Coded WV°B (L1410) based at Méharicourt crashed in flames near Raeren-lez-Eupen. Several crew members survived the crash

Between 1.00 and 3.00 several aircrafts in the Deutsche Bucht. Three bombs dropped north of Sylt without damage.

 

(F.)122 conducted night recon missions this night.

 

„SS Gowrie“ (689BRT) cargo ship, Hull to Aberdeen was attacked and sunk by german aircraft E of Stonehaven.

 

 

10.Januar 1940

 

7.30 Six aircraft of Stab K.G.26 start to attack a allied convoy that left Stadt-Landet (reported by spy) but did not encounter any ships.

 

J.G.1 reports that two squadrons patroled the areas Qu56 and Qu55 120sm westnorthwest of Helgoland.

At 13.00 a flight of I./Z.G.76 encounters 9 british Blenheim planes in 1500m. The flight was at 2500m and attacked. The enemy planes droped to 3-5m above sealevel and tried to escape.

Within 12 minutes 3 british planes are shot down.

1.      Qu6610 120sm northwest of Helgoland.

2.      and 3. Qu6530 120sm westnorthwest of Helgoland.

No german casualties just damage on the squadron-leaders plane.

 

The A/C of Luftwaffenmajor Reinberger and Hönmanns had to force land because of the bad weather at Mechelen in Belgium. They were able to destroy many of the secret documents they transported.

 

 

11.Januar 1940

 

„SS Keynes“ (1,705BRT) cargo ship, Southampton to Sunderland was sunk by German aircraft, N of Spurn Point. She had also been attacked earlier in the day by german aircraft.
