S Two different strains of the plague:
S Pneumatic plague
[affected the victim's lungs; whenever the patient exhaled, they would spread the disease]
S Bubonic plague
[not as lethal & contagious as pnuematic]
S Anthrax
[went undetected]
Symptoms
S Black swellings the size of eggs in the armpits & groins
S Swellings oozed blood & pus
S Boils & black blotches spread on the skin
S Severe pain
S Continuous fever
S Spitting of blood
S Foul smell
S Difficulty in breathing
S Encephalitis [inflammation of the brain]
N The incubation period for the plague was 3-5 days
N After the incubation period, the person usually died within 3-5 days
N Someone could go to bed [seemingly] well & die in the night
