{Much like the Flood}
{Tried to appease God}
{Processions authorized by the Pope where as many as 2000 people walked through the streets begging mercy from the heavens}
- The Flaggellants
{Processions of self-flagellation where groups of 200-300 people walked through the streets beating themselves with iron spike tipped leather whips until they were bleeding & begging Chris for mercy}
{Each procession lasted 33 days}
{Believed that self desecration would make up for the sins they had committed in the past and would therefore make them immune to illness}
{Menace to society}
- The Jews
{Flaggellants' idea was that the Jews had caused the plague by poisoning city wells}
{Supposedly wanted to destory Christendom so they could take over the world}
{Lynchings, bonfires, & forced conversions were some of the horrors they were put through}
- Thinkers
{Believed that in March 1345, the planets Jupiter, Mars, & Saturn were in allignment & that is why the plague began}
{Also said that the plague was caused by toxins in the air from swamp gas}
- Physicians
{Said that the plague occurred because of a psychological imbalance}
