| PETA, Bush in 30 Seconds, Freedom of Speech, and why America can Kiss My Patriotic Ass | ||||||||||
| Being the kind of person that I am, I like to look at every situation from both sides. Many people wouldn't believe it for a second if I told them that I read political view points of both the far left, far right, independants, and mainline politicians. While viewing a website that I came upon through a extreme left-wing friend of mine, I discovered two appaulling things: the PETA and Bush-in-30-Seconds advertiseing campaings. They are complaining everywhere they will be heard about how CBS refusing to air their commersials is somehow a violation of free speech. You may say that the only reason that I find them appaulling is because I don't agree with those beliefs or political ideals. WRONG! If you believe that you have one of two choices: Kiss my Ass and leave this page emediately, or Kiss my Ass and then finish reading so that understand why I am saying what I am saying. First, PETA, the most retarded special intrest group in existance. | ||||||||||
| PETA, for those of you who don't know, is the "People for Ethical Treatment of Animals." There ideal is that animals should be given the same treatment, in terms of civil rights and health care and cruelty laws, as humans. Their slogan is something like "Beastiality for All" or perhaps "Spend more money of my pet than the Education of Today's Youth" This organization is constantly campaigning for the stupidest possible causes involving animals. The most prevelent is the campaign to form homes for stray pets. They get more money DONATED to build these homes than the Government speds in tax dollars towards homeless HUMANS!! I figure there has to be some major societal disconnect if people are willing to give out millions, MILLIONS, of dollars towards building homes for cute little dogs, but gripe about every penny that gets "stolen" from them by the government to provide inadequate shelters for the homeless. But this isn't my major issue with PETA right now. It is their braindead advertising campaign that uses sexuality, no, make that pornography, to sell their beliefs. But it isn't even the images they protray. It is the nature of the message they are sending. Apparently, meat has been determined to cause impotence. Um. Small problem here. People have been eating meat since we have been in existance. We are omnivours. That means we are designed to function best and have the most healthy and balanced diet when we are eating MEAT and VEGETABLES. God or evolution, which ever you believe in, would not have created humans so that we would become unable to reproduce after consuming our NATURE FOOD SOURCES! Saying that you get impotence from eating meat is like saying you will get skin cancer from walking outside, or that you will die from eating. Not only do I find the ad offensive due to the subject it discusses, but it is a huge lie. CBS has no REASON to air it. It is crude, it is controversial, and it is blatantly false. All it would do is make CBS look bad. | ||||||||||
| But back to freedom of speech and good ol President Bush. Guess what people, to the surprise of many, I don't think that Bush is the best president that we have ever had. In fact, he has a lot of problems. That said, between Gore and Bush, I would definetley pick Bush. However, that is not the issue here. The issue is the "Bush-in-30-Seconds" contest that was supposed to end in a commersial to be aired during the Super Bowl. But CBS, again, refused to air it, deeming it to controversial. So the Anti-Bush guys get their panties in a twist and start calling out the Liberal buzz-phrase: "Freedom of Speech" Don't get me wrong. I love the freedom of speech. I would fight, maybe even die, for the right to say what I want when I want. That is why I have this website, amoung other reasons. But a PRIVATE business, which CBS is (due to the fact that unlike Britian we do not have a Government owned broadcasting channel), has the right to deny any advertising they want. If a government agency shut down the commersial because it was anti-Bush, then it would be an issue of Freedom of Speech. But say that they violated the first amendment because they wouldn't run the ad is like saying I am violating the first amendment for not reading a sheet of paper that someone hands to me and asks me to present to a crowd. CBS is NOT a government organisation, so none of the first amendment freedoms apply. On top of that, I see why CBS wouldn't want to air it. Not because they support Bush and gave him campaign money, not because they are a propoganda machine for the GOP, but because the commersial is offensive. The general idea is that people are going to resort to child labor to pay off the debt. Um. Last I checked, this country has been trillions of dollars in debt for A LONG TIME. Like, try at least 30 years on for size. But more so than that, there are laws against child labor. Thats what the whole social reform movement in the early 1900s was about. Child labor is not an issue to joke about, nor is it the kind of thing you should use and/or advocate on a primetime TV commersial. Learn some sence people. If I pitch a commersial to CBS that showed small African-American children being raped as an adervisement for creating better foreign affairs with Nigeria, it would probably be shot down too. | ||||||||||
| Oh, and by the way: Patriots are not all Red-Necked Hicks who put confederate flags on their cars and live south of the mason dixen line or in the bread bowl. I am a highly intellectual, suburbian teenager, and guess what, I love this motherfucking country. I know that this is just about the best country on earth to live. That said, I do not blindly think that everything that goes on in this country is perfect. There are many personal freedoms, CONSTITUTIONAL freedoms, that are being denied everyday. I believe that these things should be fixed. Blame lawyers. So to the other side I say: Don't call every decenter un-patriotic. Decenters are the only ones who keep the government in line. This country would noot even excist if a few of the intellectual elite of the colonies had decented when things got out of control. Do not be afraid to voice your oppinions EVER; I know I'm not. If no one challenges the established wisdom, no advances will ever be made in this world. Look at Voltair, Locke, and even Marx. But when ever you voice your beliefs, be sure that what you say is backed by FACTS. Nothing pisses me off more than people who spout off about shit they know nothing about. If you can prove your point convincingly enough, I might just change my views to match yours. Erik, Warrior of Awesome |
