The Thirty Fifth Anniversary Speach

Note: I transcribed this from a document I obtained in 1991. For a less cutup version of this document please see this link: 35thannspeech.html

The speech that President Ikeda made at the 35th anniversary conference is still controversial. I can't get a undisputably accurate transcription/translation at all! The Gakkai at first disputed most of the contents of the speech, and Nichiren Shoshu acknowledged that much of what President Ikeda had said was directed at the Shoshinkai. But it is obvious in retrospect that he had been talking about Nichiren Shoshu priests indirectly. He has never said differently. It was President Akiya who tried to dance in defense of his words. He was and still is adamant in denouncing what he believes are the incorrect teachings and attitudes of the priests of Nichiren Shoshu. For one discussion of this speech I had with Roy Boyce see boyce.html. To see his apology text, see this page: . For a discussion of the succession issues see:succession.html
