The SGI USA is a large body of Nichiren believers headquartered in Santa Monica California, with Chapters all over the USA. At one time it was part of Nichiren Shoshu but it now is struggling on it's own. SGI is involved in a "war of words with Nichiren Shoshu and has involved SGI-USA in that war big time.
Before 1991 SGI-USA was known as NSA. Our current general director is Danny Nagashima and our former one was Fred Zaitsu. When it was first formed George M Williams (Once Masayasu Sadanaga) was the General Director, but he had already been served notice that he was to become a member of the "Madigiwa Zoku"/ "window Watcher clan" in 1989. We are supposedly independent of Japan on paper and in the admonitions of our SGI-World founder, President Ikeda as reflected in this mirror guidances, but not in reality. Independence is something some of the members are still struggling for. The reality is that Sokagakkai Japan directs Sokagakkai International, which in turn directs SGI-USA.
