Today, boys and germs, we discuss "Tempt". It is a one-syllable word. Almost sounds like a dirty word: "Tempt". It's so sharp, so finite. And it haunts everyone. No one is free from it's filthy grasp. Oh sure, we can ignore it, and put it out of our minds, but it's still there. And some of us make it a point to be a source of temptation.
For me, temptation takes nothing more than a seductive smile, a flash of skin; but then again, I'm easy. And I don't use the word lightly. I don't use the word "tempt" unless it's in regards to someone who isn't available.
I may sound like an amateur when it comes to this topic, but I have tempted, been tempted, and succumbed to temptation. Believe me, no fruit tastes sweeter that the fruit of temptation.
Hell, there's even a song about it; several songs, now that I think about it.
Some of us(yours truly, included) make ourselves that very same fruit of temptation. We try to draw someone else's fancy away, sometimes with dire results. Even more dangerous, some of us go out and seek temptation. We go out looking for something that isn't ours, and maybe shouldn't be ours(I've just done this as recently as tonight). If the former has dire results, think of the consequences that can arise from the latter.
But isn't this the nature of living? We always covet that which isn't ours, but isn't it rational? I sure know that no one is going to give you what you want just because you want it. Everything in this world requires work, requires effort; and isn't temptation just an extension of that same belief?
Maybe it's living recklessly, and carelessly; but I can't imagine it being so bad. Ravi Shankar, an Hindu mystic(I know, I'm going to quote Ravi Shankar, but bear with me), is quoted as saying, "Whatever you choose is your destiny". Tempting and being tempted are just people choosing.
I close out with a saying I'm sure many of you have heard before: "If it feels good, do it".
