weBLOG for October 4th, 2004

"I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world."

It seems that I was a strange and particular person at one point in my life. Then I discovered a new facet of myself, and tried to be that person exclusively, forgetting who I had already been. Now, with more time on my hands then I've had recently, I'm finding that person again. And that person that I was believed a quote from this very strange, very off-beat, very bad movie I have seen dozens of times. I included the quote in the last blog for your perusal, straight from the "Rocky Horror Picture Show."

Once again, we come to an age-old dilemma that has plagued mankind for sometime now. Does art imitate life, or vice-versa? I was once again posed this question today after reading a passage from a very good book at my disposal at the moment.

Many times, we encounter situations in our entertainment, not so much television and movies, which are mostly generic slop; which reflect situations in our lives. I just received a glaring reminder of a situation in which I am currently mired; in which anyone can be mired in, and that ends with a typical result. Well, for me it is typical anyway.

And you have to wonder at that moment; "Is my life unique, or does every person go through the same things?" And if you read about it, if you see it, if you hear it; will the outcome be the same in your life? Will it be a happy ending with the horse-drawn carriage and the white turtledoves, or will I end up sad and dejected, alone to contemplate my existence before a tragic accident takes me out of this world.

You see, it's this fucked-up shit that cycles through my mind all the time. And while we all see in our entertainment that things end up either black or white, in real life they end up as shades of grey. You get both good and bad, no matter what decisions you make in life.

I read in this same book something to the point that states, our actions way back in the past, set into motion events far in our future. And every action we take has unintended consequences. Whether we search for black or white, that grey always seems to pervade.
