"I'm Sure the Gay Community Appreciates Your Support"

Yesterday's line was uttered by Tom Cruise in "A Few Good Men". I think it's a good lil movie. Check it out.

Today I got to thinking about losing. Raising kids, one thing you have to teach them is that in every game, there unfortunately must be a loser. We have good sports that teach us "No matter whether you win or lose, it's how you play the game"; but we also have people telling us, "Win, damn it!".

And not only in sports or other competitions do we lose. We lose in everyday situations. If the guy who sells us coffee every morning stiffs us a few coins from our change, we lose on the days we don't correct him. We lose when the yearly bonuses don't reflect what we think we earned. We lose at least once a day.

Does it teach us any lessons? It may, but are we patient enough to learn the lesson the moment we lose? That's a big no-kie dokie. The only thing that results from our loss is that we get pissed off, and most times we let the lesson pass by the wayside.

And now my real point. If we lose over and over again, do we get used to it? The answer to that is...maybe. I'm a chronic loser, and I'm here to tell you that I'm used to losing. For me, if I don't lose, it's a big, fucking surprise to me. I'm not the only one, too. I know alot of people who are used to being constant losers.

And how do you get used to losing, you may ask? This may sound insensitive, but it's battered wife syndrome. Losing becomes a warm, security blanket to you, and you get used to it being a constant in your life. The same way battered spouses or girlfriends are used to nothing in their lives being there like the abuse, so does the loser get used to the omnipresence of losing.

It's not fun. Don't get me wrong. By no means is losing fun. I'm just saying that it becomes like a pet that greets you every morning. And how can you not live with your pet greeting you every morning?

And the next time you get down on being a loser, just remember, without us losers, there would be no winners.
