Mr Eric Mandel. Chairman MDBLP

I have now completed eight years as Chairman of the Branch. Once again I am pleased to report we are maintaining our reputation in the constituancy for being the most active branch. Our meetings are generally well attended with an average presence of about twenty members. Meetings are always enjoyable and after the formal agenda items we have a political discussion period on a diverse range of subjects which generally provoke a lively and often controversial debate.

Our fund raising and social events continue to be successful and are often in such demand that we have to restrict numbers attending. Partly through our social activities we have recruited fourteen new members this year.

A large party of our members had a thoroughly enjoyable day visiting the London Eye and the Tate Modern where we were able to see, apart from the main exhibits, the most wonderful collection of paintings by Matisse and Picasso demonstating how each artist's work had been influenced the other. A unique event.

In my years as Chairman one event will stand out as being our most successful and enjoyable was our branch tenth anniversary celebration lunch in the Strangers Dining Room in the House of Commons. Our guest speaker was Michael Wills MP. It was agreed by all forty four members present that it was a memorable day, with superb food served in this wonderful room overlooking theThames.

Malmesbury Branch members have continued to pay a full and active part in the organisation and running of the North Wilts Consituancy Party. Our success can be measured by the amount of work we are asked to do by both North Swindon (with whom we are twinned) and South West Regional Office who have often said we are the best branch in the area and they would not know wat to do without us - praise indeed. I would agree with their observations. I am proud of our Branch and I would not have known what to do without the continuing loyal support of all the officers and members.

Eric Mandel.
