Grossman is one of those charactors that one would have a hard time keeping a straight face. With his (sometimes) strange ideas are sure to put a smile on all who watches, And according to him he has always been on the plump side.
Grossman is married to Carol and it is not known rather or not he has kids. However we do learn( In the later episodes) that he has a cousin Russel.
Grossie(his nick name) is a talented writer and writes articles for the " Highway Patrollman magazine. Once doing a article on fatige. He's an expert when it comes  to the rules of roller hockey, and once couched the CHP( Central) basketball team.
He loves animals and once caused the LAPD and all his fellow co-workers to respond to his transmitter sending out an emergency call when he tripped and fell while trying to rescue a dog that woundered into the road.
His on the job injuries include, getting hit by a tow truck chain while in persuit.
Grossie enjoys cooking( Once helping Ponch's mother bake a cake in Ponch's honnor) and sewing( Once sewing the uniforms for the CHP BMX team). He also enjoys Chess, and Tennis.
Mr. Linke was born in New York New York in      1948 and raised in Los Angels. After grduating from Notre Dame High school he attended USC, soon droping out after he discovered he was stripped of ideas.
Mr. Linke never  had any intention of being an actor or being in show business but a friend encouraged him to take an acting class. Linke took an instant liking to acting and transferred to the drama department at USC, He continued his studies and in 1972 he got MFA.
Even with his degrees Mr. Linke's was told not to follow the risky career as an actor. Listening to those folks Mr. Linke moved to a rural town in New Mexico. After seeing some of his friends on TV he decided to move back to LA where he managed to get some small roles until he was spotted by a casting director to play the role of Grossman for the new hit series "CHiPs". Being down to his last 40$ this offer was welcomed even though Linke thought the show would be cancelled within a couple of weeks. To Linke's surprise "CHiPs" ran for six seasons, and was one of the biggest hits of the 70's
About a year after "CHiPs" was canselled Linke's life turned tragic when his wife( gifted stage actress Francesca Draper) was struck with breast cancer. In 1986 and after a two year fight with this disease she died leaving Linke to raise their three young children.
While still greiving from his wife's death, Linke wrote a show " Time Flies When You're Alive" The show became a hit , running to a packed house for over a year. It was also filmed for television as an HBO special
Linke now lives in Los Angeles where he continues to act and write. He recently completed his third performance piece entitiled " Another Time: Middle Rage."
