Computerized Library Administration
Starting from October 2001, a group of pupils was delegated to record the necessary information of each book in our school library. By December 2001, they had already keyed in information of almost 90% of the books. When the new academic year of 2002 started, the manual card system was replaced by the computerized system. Each book has a bar code on it and a bar code reader is used to transfer information to the computer. When a pupil borrows a book, the librarian uses a bar code reader to read his or her smart card, then reads the bar code on the book. The borrowing record is automatically stored in the computer. When the pupil returns the book, the librarian only needs to read the bar code on the book to cancel the outstanding record. Nevertheless, the historical records of the borrower and the book remain intact until erased on instruction.
