Student Smart Card Project - 2001

The year 2001 saw our school introducing the Student Smart Card Project. A test run was held involving pupils from Year 4, 5 and 6. Pupils were required to swipe their cards at the designated stations when they reached the school. Two computers were used at that stage. By 7.30 a.m., the SSC teacher would make a hardcopy of the attendance sheet. With that the school administration was able to track patterns and historical records of absentees. After a few months of trial run, most of the problems was overcome and by the end of the year 2001 the system was running smoothly.

The project is now in full implementation involving all teachers and pupils of the school. Four swiping terminals linked to a server form the core of the present system. It has now become a common habit for teachers and pupils to swipe their cards on immediate arrival at school. Tracking attendance and absentees for both the staff and the pupils has become a simple procedure. Parents can be contacted within the shortest possible time to find out about absentees.
