Teachers who were appointed to manage the club.

Computer Education
SRJK(C) Chung Hwa Presbyterian

Computer education was first introduced in this school in 1990 with the guidance and strong support from the PTA and the Board of Directors. The school then signed an agreement with Micro Computer Centre whereby the company took over the running of the club and conducted all the computer lessons using their own instructors.

In December 1994, the contract with Macro Computer Centre expired and the school decided to take over the running of the computer club. With the support of PTA, the school raised enough fund to purchase 20 new computers. Several teachers were appointed to manage the club and to conduct lessons for the pupils.

Since then the computer club has progress tremendously and is now equipped with the following equipment :-

The club recently subscribes to TM Net and has its own Home Page.

In an effort to raise computer literacy among teachers, the computer club conducted many computer lessons for the teachers of this school as well as those from other schools.

Development In Year 1998

1998 saw the school computer club setting up a second computer lab. with 25 sets of Pentium 200 MMX computers with multimedia functions to cater to the greater demand for computer lessons among the year 4, 5 and 6 pupils since the single computer lab wasn't enough to accommodate all the pupils.

Year 1,2 and 3 pupils are also given the basic computer lessons.  Finally, the syllabi for the year 4, 5 and 6 pupils computer lessons also undergo  revision.  Apart from learning Words, Chinese Star, Excel, Photo Shop, the year six pupils will also be taught Power Point Presentation and Visual Basic Programming.

The club will also be identifying outstanding pupils in the field of computer.  These pupils will form the elite group and they will be taught the skill of writing homepage and it is hope that the school homepage will then be maintained by this group of pupils.

Development in Year 2000 & 2001

The year 2000 saw a major over-haul in the courses taught in our Computer classes. Course materials were revised and tailored made to suit the various age groups. The number of courses taught were maintained but the course syllabi modified. There were heavy constraints as the computers were then getting out-dated and not powerful enough to cater for the latest application software.

The beginning of year 2001 saw another major over-haul. This time it was the hardware that was changed. All the 26 computers in Room 1 were replaced with new units. Recent versions of applications were introduced and the course materials further revised to make full use of the additional power of the new units. We have also introduced  Photo Shop for our Year 5 pupils.

All the computers in Room 1 are now linked using two state-of- the art switches. We have also ordered a LCD projector to fully equip the room. With that the process of teaching and learning will be enhanced and more effective for pupils using that room. Room 1 and Room 2 will be link up by the end of year 2002. Facilities in both rooms are now the same, the difference being the age of the computers and the LCD projector in Room 2. Both rooms have their own printers and flat-bed scanner.

Notable additions in years 2000 and 2001 are:

·        1 Laser Jet Printer

·        1 set computer for GPK

·        1 set computer for Library (Computer, Bar Code Reader, Laser Jet Printer)

·        1 set computer for Office (additional)

·        26 sets new computers for Room 1

·        LCD projector for Room 1

·        Networking for Room 1

·        Acer Flat-bed Scanner for Room 2

·        1 set Computer for Room 2

·        CD Writer for Room 1 & 2

Our next project will be replacing all the old computers in Room 2 and linking them up together to a Laser Jet Printer and the flat-bed scanner. Room 1 and Room 2 will be linked to the Server managing the CIE program. With this total connection, both computer rooms will also be able access to the CIE program that is currently used in the classrooms.

Development in Year 2002

Computer In Education Program

Although the CIE program started in the year 2000 it was actually fully operational in 2001. Altogether 30 classes are involved with the program. The whole network consists of a TV and a computer in each of the 30 classes. At the heart of the system is a server linked to all these computers through two hubs.

At present teachers are able to access teaching materials, tests, exercises and authoring tools for five core subjects, namely Chinese Language, Malay Language, English, Mathematics and Science. The lesson materials are all planned according to our Malaysian primary school syllabi and the presentations filled with illustrations galore. Class lessons have become more interesting and enjoyable since the program started. The CIE program is the pet project of the school抯 Parents Teachers Association. There will be future changes and upgrading to further improve the program抯 usefulness. The PTA is continuously looking for new and innovative educational programs to suit to the ever changing conditions.
