| Wild Iris is one of the most scenic climbing areas I've been to. The cliffs are at about 9,000 feet and there are mountains all around. The bases of the cliffs are lined with storybook type forests. It is also a great place to escape the oppresive summer heat and humidity. Be prepared for an ass kicking (especially on a short visit). If the elevation doesn't get you the routes probably will. They are powerful, hard to read, and many routes go from slab to steep roof climbing requiring decent slab technique as well as the power to pull through the steep. Excellent sport routes on excellent stone with an excellent setting make for a superior climbing area. |
