Zen Crane's Photos &; Poems:  Uji:, Japan '03'
BThe ringing temple bell
cuts through the morning fog
evoking a deeper peace.
,
The mist upon the hills
will soon give way to blossoms;
Uji village dawn-
where I travel alone,
embracing the strangers' smiles.
Only endless gray
where water and sky meet.
Is it just the clouds-
that cast a morning veil
above this silent river?
By the river edge
where cherry petals bloom
in the chilly air-
my silent thoughts arise too
as another day passes.
By this time-worn road
that leads to Mountain Gate;
fresh flower petals-
emerge in the soft rain
through a wall of crumbling stone.
With each passing day
as flowers burst forth and wilt,
who would not wonder?
How many seasons will pass,
before my life also fades.
What joy would there be,
if soft blossoms did not wither?
As  the season turns-
each moment becomes more dear,
unsure when the last will fall.
